Mama Bear (Parent company Amazon) provides relatively affordable diapers which have received good feedback based on performance overall. Their parent company is serious about improving their environmental impacts and protecting human rights across their supply chain. But how do they stack up against the Conscious Score? See why they received a C Rating rating below.

Mama Bear as a product does not have much to say for itself in terms of sustainability. But if you look at their parent company Amazon, there are serious moves being made in this arena. The company has said they are on track to have net zero emissions by 2025. They are committed to conserving and reusing water, both in their on-site operations and by working with private and public entities to support water availability in communities where they operate data centers. They have even co-founded "The Climate Pledge", a commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040 - 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. Mama Bear as an individual brand however, does not have "The Climate Pledge" commitment identified, and we know almost nothing about how it is manufactured except that their Gentle Touch Diapers are manufactured in a zero waste to landfill facility. Mama Bear receives an B for the Environmental Pillar of The Conscious Score, but only because of their parent company, Amazon.

Amazon is committed to respecting and supporting the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the core Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. This means that they ensure they do not participate (and neither do their partners) in forced labor, discrimination, and they enforce fairness and equality in the workplace. Because these standards are across the entire supply chain and their products under the Amazon umbrella, Mama Bear receives an A for the Human Rights pillar of The Conscious Score, but only because of their parent company Amazon. 

Mama Bear claims that their products are cruelty free, but they do not have a certification. We also do not know if they have vegan ingredients or if they sell in countries that require animal testing. Since Mama Bear is not certified vegan or cruelty free and it is ambiguous if they are sold in countries that require testing they get an F for the Animal Rights Pillar of The Conscious Score.
